Melrose Park, IL – A major cornerstone of PCC Community Wellness Center’s (PCC) services is providing comprehensive maternal and child health services. As a result of this commitment, PCC Melrose Park Family Health Center was recognized by the Chicago Area Breastfeeding Coalition (CABC), which presented Dr. Tamajah Gibson and her provider team with the 2016 Breastfeeding-Friendly Physician Award for their outstanding support of breastfeeding mothers and babies.

The CABC is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving health outcomes among Chicago area families by removing barriers to breastfeeding. Dr. Gibson was one of five providers honored by the CABC on May 2 during a dinner seminar, Creating a Breastfeeding-Friendly Practice in Chicago, at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital.

“PCC is the first federally qualified health center to be nominated since we began giving this award in 2010,” said CABC board co-chair, Jessica Keirns. “The CABC is very excited to see a practice find ways to successfully support a diverse population of families who face many obstacles to breastfeeding.”

While the award was presented to Dr. Gibson, she accepted it on behalf of all PCC Melrose Park providers, who work together to create an encouraging environment for nursing mothers. “I am very proud of our PCC Melrose Park team as we accept the CABC Breastfeeding Friendly Physician Award,” said Dr. Gibson. “We understand the difference that mother’s milk makes during the first year of an infant’s life. We ensure that our moms have assistance while they breastfeed with the additional help of our amazing support staff—Socorro Murillo, Care Coordinator, and Roshani Soraiya, RN.”

PCC is a twelve-site federally qualified health center (FQHC) that provides integrated primary, behavioral and oral health care as well as support services. Dr. Gibson and her team care for patients at PCC Melrose Park Family Health Center, located at 1111 Superior Street, Suite 101, Melrose Park, IL 60160. Pregnant patients have the option of delivering at Westlake Hospital or the Birth Center at PCC in Berwyn, IL.
