CHICAGO, Ill. – Many school children are just beginning their summer break. But it is not too early to schedule physical exams for their return to school in the fall. PCC Community Wellness Center (PCC) provides low-cost school physicals at PCC Austin and PCC Lake Street Family Health Centers.
A great school year begins with a complete exam. School physicals are required for preschool, kindergarten, 6th grade, and 9th grade. In addition, physicals help parents to make sure that their children are both physically and emotionally healthy so they can perform well during the school year.
“School physical season is a busy time of year,” says Dr. Brooke Turnock, one of PCC’s pediatricians. “Summer break is a great opportunity to catch kids up on preventive care.”
PCC also offers sports physicals. Students entering college can get exams, too.
During the exam, a medical assistant will measure the child's height, weight, pulse, and blood pressure. The provider will check the child’s body to see if there is anything abnormal. This is a good time to review the child’s medical history. Caregivers can discuss concerns about the child’s wellbeing, too.
PCC accepts many major health plans, such as Medicaid. There is a sliding fee discount program for patients who do not have insurance. No one is denied services because of inability to pay.
